  EASY PEAR STRUDEL

2 fresh Bartlett pears, unpeeled and chopped
¼ cup walnuts, chopped
¼ cup sugar
¾ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
1 1/3 cups flour
1 ½ tsp sugar
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
1/8 tsp cream of tartar
2 T. margarine
¼ cup milk
1 egg, lightly beaten
Sugar for sprinkling

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Place chopped pears between two paper towels and pat out excess moisture. Combine pears with walnuts, ¼ cup sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; set aside. In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, 1/½ tsp sugar, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar. Cut in butter with a pastry blended until mixture resembles meal; stir in milk and egg. Roll out on a floured surface into a 13 x 9 rectangle. Place on greased baking sheet. Spread pear mixture over middle third of dough, leaving 2 inches at each end. Fold ends up. With a knife cut 1 inch wide strips toward center to within 1 inch of filling. Fold strips over filling, alternating from side to side. Sprinkle top with sugar. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until pear filling is tender and crust is golden.
