Looking for something different for your holiday brunch? Here is a fruit compote that is really delicious. Enjoy!
Citrus Brunch Fruit
3 cups mandarin orange sections, drained
1 ½ cups grapefruit sections, fresh or canned
1 cup sugar
¼ to ½ tsp cinnamon
½ cup fresh lemon juice
1-2 T. lemon juice
1 cup water
½ tsp nutmeg
2 avocados
Combine orange/grapefruit sections. Make a syrup from sugar, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve.
Add ½ cup lemon juice and cool.
Pour syrup over orange/grapefruit and marinate overnight. Two hours before serving, slice avocados and brush with lemon juice. Add to fruit or put a couple slices on each serving.
Serve on lettuce leaves or in snifter, etc. Pour a little marinade over fruit.
