Last year I received a cookbook from my friend, Jane Van Rheen who lives in Texas. This cookbook came from their church choir. Guess there must be some very fine cooks in that choir. I sure would like to go to their dinner socials. Anyway I ran across a small and really easy recipe for cookies in that cookbook. Here it is.

Butter Almond Squares

1 1/2 c. flour
1 egg
1 tsp pure almond extract
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 c. butter
1 c. sugar
sliced almonds

Mix flour, egg, almond extract, baking powder, butter, and sugar with a beater until well blended. Press into a 8 or 9 inch square pan. Bake at 325 degrees until golden brown about 25 to 30 minutes. Allow to cool thoroughly. Ice with your favorite butter icing generously flavored with almond extract. Sprinkle with sliced almonds. These keep well for several days.
